Note from WGM Christy:
Dear Eastern Star Sisters and Brothers –
I have felt your prayers and well wishes during my recovery.Thank you for all of the beautiful cards, flowers and gifts! I’m at home, recuperating now. It’s a very slow process. Physically, I am very weak but working to get stronger with exercises and physical therapy. I’m just not up to many phone calls or visits, yet. It’s my goal to be active as your Worthy Grand Matron by the end of the month. I am missing all of you!
Star Love,

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
The latest status on Christy is positive. She is at the ranch and is in good spirits. She is getting stronger and is trying to rebuild her stamina and energy levels. She tires very easily. She is no longer receiving therapy for swallow/voice and continues to work on short term memory loss caused by the heavy medication she received at the hospital. Thinking of you cards would be greatly appreciated. Her address at the ranch is 3488 Ward Road, Cambridge ID 83610. Christy's plan is to take it slow.8/24/2010 (4:30 p.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
On Monday, WGM Christy passed her swallow test and she was outta there! She got to spend her first night since July 19 at home in her own bed. She will continue with therapy on swallowing and memory. I'm sure she woke up one very happy person this morning. 8/21/2010 (9:30 p.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
WGM Christy continues to improve. Her voice is very close to the volume it was before she went into the hospital. She is still working on swallowing so is not on solid foods yet. Her walking is strong. She wants to go home very badly and is working toward that goal.... Two of her dogs paid her visits at the hospital this past week to cheer her up. There's a conference on Tuesday to advise the family of what to expect when WGM Christy is released. Sister Jo is expecting to hear a release date then.8/16/2010 (10:00 a.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
WGM Christy continues to work with her therapists. She is walking with the assistance of a walker. She's building upper body strength lifting the walker :-) Her voice is still a whisper although it is louder than it was. She really wants to go home and is working hard toward that end.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
WGM Christy is now in the Rehab Unit in the South Tower at St. Alphonsus Hosp. She is scheduled for six separate sessions of varying rehab per day. The goal is for her to be out of the hospital in 7 to 10 days and to continue rehab on an out-patient basis.
WGM Christy and Sister Jo asked that I thank everyone for all the prayers and the wonderful cards that have been sent to WGM Christy and her family. They continue to help them all get through this struggle.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
Good news! WGM Christy has been moved out of ICU to the neurology unit (don't know the correct name) one floor above. She will now receive therapy for her throat/voice/swallowing. Sister Jo asks that WGM Christy not receive visitors yet, as she is unable to communicate and weak from spending 3 weeks on her back. The report is that her brain functions are good and now it is time to do the hard work of getting her back to where she was.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
Just a post to let everyone know that WGM Christy's status is the same. She continues to make progress toward leaving the ICU.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
Tuesday was a very good day for Christy. Pain free she was able to sleep and had good quality time with her family. Hopefully, this will be the first of many such days.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
The doctors may have finally gotten WGM Christy's pain managed. She had a restful night last night and day today.7/30/2010 (9:30 p.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
WGM Christy's day today was not as good in that her pain level is high enough to keep her very uncomfortable all of the time. It's hard for her family to see someone they love be in so much pain and not be able to do anything for her that would give her relief. Her oxygen level is still good, and her lungs continue to clear and heal.
7/29/2010 (10:00 p.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
WGM Christy continues to improve. The oxygen level in her blood is up. She is breathing with the aid of oxygen but not with a mask or respirator. Her throat is not bothering her anymore and her lungs are slowly clearing. She's enjoying the cards that have been sent. She is still in some pain. All in all, she is making progress and everyone is pleased. Prayer does work. Please continue to include the entire family in your prayers.
7/28/2010 (10:00 p.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
WGM Christy's parents did not go to the hospital today. This morning WGM Christy's nurse told Sister Jo that WGM Christy was the same as yesterday - very tired. An updated status report will be posted tomorrow.7/27/2010 (10:30 p.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
The respirator was removed today. The treatments and procedures that follow being on a respirator, trying to clear the lungs are exhausting, so WGM Christy limited the visitors she received today. The pain in her head has been caused by spasms in her brain and those spasms have greatly diminished which is what causes the doctors to be encouraged. WGM Christy is not the only one who is exhausted. Please remember her family as well in your prayers. I think cards of encouragement would be appreciated by them.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt:
Today was the same as yesterday for WGM Christy which isn't a bad thing. Her family is encouraged. She still has pain in her head but the doctors are pleased with the progress. I learned tonight that WGM Christy does have another surgery in her future to "fix" the aneurism completely. Sister Jo didn't know when the surgery would be. WGM Christy has asked Sister Jo to bring some of the cards to the hospital and her reading glasses : -)
I've been asked to repeat the addresses to send cards to:
Christy Schill-Newbold, 601 E Ash St., Caldwell ID 83605, and
Jo Schill, 322 W Hazel St., Caldwell ID 83605

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt
Today was a much better day for WGM Christy. She is still on the respirator. Her temperature is down. She said the pain in her head is "tolerable" which would indicate the procedure done last night was successful. Her family is much more upbeat. Hopefully, tomorrow will be another good day.
7/24/2010 (9:30 p.m.)
Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt
WGM Christy had a little setback today, although the doctors said it is to be expected. A "procedure" was done to try to alleviate the pain she has been in constantly. She is back on the respirator because her breathing has been affected by the aneurism. The doctors are not discouraged, although (as you can imagine) the family is disappointed that she is back on the respirator. WGM Christy has all of her faculties about her. She will be in ICU for at least another week.
WGM Christy has been receiving so many cards that they are delivered bundled with rubber bands :) The family is appreciative of the people who stop by and visit them.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt
There is nothing "new" to report today. WGM Christy gets better each day. Her throat is still quite agitated from the respirator. She receives therapy for her throat each day. She's not eating solid foods yet, but her voice is stronger. Yesterday, her doctor assured her that she would recover "with time". No word yet on when she will be moved from ICU.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt
WGM Christy is continuing to make progress. This morning, Sister Jo told me that the respirator was removed with no complications. WGM Christy is still in critical condition and heavily medicated for the pain in her head. She is alert, talking, giving intructions and directions to her family. These are good signs (so far) that there should be no lasting effects. Sister Jo said that she would call me this evening (Thursday).

Sister Jo called tonight to say that WGM Christy came through last night's surgery very well. She is currently on a respirator and heavily sedated. She was resting comfortably when her parents left the hospital tonight. Pray that she has a good day tomorrow and progresses from there.

Update on WGM Christy from Grand Secretary Denise Hunt
WGM Christy is in ICU at St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise and is expected to make a full recovery.
On Monday, 7/19/2010, Sister Jo Schill, WGM Christy's mother called to let me know that an aneurism had ruptured in WGM Christy's brain that morning when she had gotten up to get ready for work. An ambulance took her to Cambridge and she was bought to Boise by Life Flight. When her parents were able to see her, she recognized them and was talking coherently. The doctors have said they expect WGM Christy to make a full recovery.
Please include WGM Christy and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Cards may be sent to her at her Caldwell address and her parents will deliver them to her. Her address is: 601 E. Ash St. Caldwell, ID 83605
